STORY SUMMARY

The Great Flamarion is a cold, disciplined vaudeville sharpshooter whose stage act relies on a married couple as his human targets. When the unhappy wife, Connie, sets her sights on him, she manipulates the smitten marksman into engineering a fatal “accident” to be rid of her drunken husband. But Connie is far more treacherous than Flamarion realizes, and her betrayal sends him on a path of obsession, deceit, and deadly vengeance. Told in flashback from the lips of a dying man, this taut early film noir from director Anthony Mann features a compelling performance by Erich von Stroheim.
