STORY SUMMARY

Prostitute Sadie Thompson is stranded on a rain-soaked South Pacific island with other travelers while awaiting passage to Apia. Moral reformer Alfred Davidson becomes determined to force her repentance and return her to a troubled past in San Francisco. As Davidson’s campaign grows more obsessive, the conflict exposes hypocrisy, desire, and the limits of imposed morality. Joan Crawford gives a forceful performance in this adaptation of W.
