STORY SUMMARY

After losing his mother in a sudden accident, wholesome farm boy Jimmy Mason moves to the city to live with relatives. There he falls under the spell of smooth-talking bootlegger Matt Kelly and his warm-hearted girlfriend, Peggy. When Jimmy takes a job at Kelly's illegal operation and is arrested, he loyally refuses to name his boss and is sent to a brutal reform school. Inside, he befriends an ailing boy named Shorty and resolves to expose the cruelty of the system.
