A PIECE OF EARLY TELEVISION HISTORY

Joe Palooka began as Ham Fisher's enormously popular newspaper comic-strip boxing hero before making the jump into movies, radio and television. The television adaptation brought the familiar heavyweight champion into American homes in a series of 30-minute syndicated adventures.

Unlike a straightforward boxing program, The Joe Palooka Story mixed stories about the fight business with mystery, crime, comedy and everyday adventures, giving viewers a weekly look at the life of an unusually kindhearted heavyweight champion.
