STORY SUMMARY

Sam Bisbee is a good-hearted but perpetually unlucky small-town glazier whose get-rich-quick schemes exasperate his social-climbing family. When he invents a genuinely shatterproof automobile glass, he sets off to demonstrate it to a convention of car manufacturers, only for a mix-up to turn his big moment into a humiliating disaster. On the dejected train ride home, a chance encounter with a gracious princess sets the stage for Sam to finally win the respect of the town that looked down on him. A delightful showcase for W.C. Fields' comic genius, So's Your Old Man was later remade as his talkie You're Telling Me!
