DON’T DIE LAUGHING!
Funny Haunts, Mad Monsters & Bumbling Fools
You’ll Scream—But Mostly from Laughter!
Lock the doors, dim the lights and prepare for a hilariously haunted evening! DON’T DIE LAUGHING! gathers 12 vintage horror-comedy movies featuring suspicious mansions, mischievous ghosts, ridiculous monsters, eccentric scientists, frightened detectives and fools who stumble directly into supernatural trouble.
From spooky silent-era slapstick and old-dark-house mysteries to madcap monster spoofs and outrageous Roger Corman comedies, this collection offers six entertaining double features filled with chills, chuckles and wonderfully strange surprises.
DOUBLE FEATURE ONE
HEIRS, GHOSTS & HIDDEN FORTUNES
1. The Cat and the Canary (1927)
Twenty years after the death of wealthy Cyrus West, his relatives gather inside his gloomy mansion for the reading of his will. When young Annabelle West is named the heir, she must prove that she is legally sane before receiving the fortune.
A mysterious escaped lunatic known as “The Cat” is reportedly prowling nearby, while secret passages, disappearing bodies and shadowy hands send the frightened guests into a panic. This celebrated silent feature blends haunted-house atmosphere, suspense and delightfully nervous comedy.
2. The Ghost Walks (1934)
A playwright, his producer and several stranded travelers seek shelter inside an isolated mansion during a violent storm. The strange occurrences inside appear to be part of a carefully staged theatrical performance—but an actual murder soon turns the evening into something far more dangerous.
Secret doors, ghostly figures, suspicious servants and bewildered guests create an entertaining mixture of old-dark-house mystery and macabre comedy.
DOUBLE FEATURE TWO
GORILLAS, GANGSTERS & FRIGHTENED FOOLS
3. The Gorilla (1939)
A wealthy man receives a threatening message from a mysterious criminal known as “The Gorilla.” Believing that his life is in danger, he hires the Ritz Brothers to protect him—but the bumbling detectives may create more chaos than the criminal himself.
Bela Lugosi also appears in this fast-moving haunted-house comedy filled with disappearing bodies, secret panels, ominous warnings and a very suspicious gorilla.
4. Spooks Run Wild (1941)
The East Side Kids are sent to a country camp, where they become stranded near an abandoned mansion supposedly inhabited by a monster. Inside, they encounter an eccentric magician, strange noises, secret rooms and a killer stalking the countryside.
Bela Lugosi adds sinister atmosphere while the boys deliver energetic comedy, confusion and plenty of frightened reactions.
DOUBLE FEATURE THREE
HAUNTED HOUSES & UNINVITED GUESTS
5. Lucky Ghost (1942)
Two penniless gamblers unexpectedly win a wealthy man’s automobile and estate in a game of chance. Their sudden good fortune attracts gangsters, crooked gamblers and a collection of troublesome visitors determined to take everything away from them.
Mantan Moreland and F. E. Miller star in this lively comedy involving mistaken identities, gambling schemes, romantic complications and supposedly supernatural surprises.
6. The Ghost and the Guest (1943)
Newlyweds arrive at a remote country house expecting a peaceful honeymoon. Instead, they discover that the residence has become the center of a murder investigation involving escaped criminals, suspicious strangers and a body that refuses to remain where it was left.
This brisk comedy-mystery transforms a honeymoon into a night of disappearing corpses, mistaken identities and haunted-house confusion.
DOUBLE FEATURE FOUR
CORPSES, CASTLES & COMIC CHAOS
7. One Body Too Many (1944)
A timid insurance salesman arrives at an eerie mansion to complete a policy for a wealthy millionaire—only to discover that the man has recently died. The deceased has left unusual instructions concerning his burial, and his greedy relatives are willing to do almost anything to change the terms of his will.
Jack Haley, Bela Lugosi and Lyle Talbot star in this entertaining combination of murder mystery, old-dark-house horror and nervous comedy.
8. Crazy Knights—Also Known as Ghost Crazy (1944)
Three traveling entertainers become stranded and seek refuge inside an apparently abandoned building. They soon encounter strange noises, mysterious figures, criminals and several supposedly supernatural residents.
The trio’s attempt to investigate produces comic misunderstandings, frightened escapes and a night filled with ghostly confusion.
DOUBLE FEATURE FIVE
MAD SCIENTISTS & WALKING NIGHTMARES
9. Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952)
Two nightclub performers become stranded on a tropical island inhabited by beautiful natives and an eccentric scientist. The scientist is conducting strange experiments involving evolution, transformation and a lovesick gorilla with a surprisingly human personality.
Bela Lugosi plays the sinister doctor while Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo supply songs, impressions and wildly exaggerated comedy.
10. The Living Ghost (1942)
A wisecracking former detective is hired to investigate the disappearance of a wealthy banker. When the missing man suddenly returns in a silent, zombie-like trance, the detective begins searching for the strange force controlling him.
His investigation leads to a secluded mansion, a hidden laboratory, peculiar experiments and a household filled with suspicious characters. Horror, science fiction, mystery and comic dialogue combine in this unusual supernatural thriller.
DOUBLE FEATURE SIX
MONSTERS GONE COMPLETELY MAD
11. The Little Shop of Horrors (1960)
A clumsy flower-shop assistant accidentally creates a strange new plant that brings attention and customers to his struggling workplace. Unfortunately, the rapidly growing plant has a terrifying appetite that ordinary fertilizer cannot satisfy.
Directed by Roger Corman, this cult horror-comedy features eccentric customers, absurd dialogue, murderous misunderstandings and an early appearance by Jack Nicholson.
12. Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961)
A crooked American gambler agrees to transport a group of exiled military officers and their national treasury aboard his yacht. Planning to steal the gold, he invents a story about a sea monster and begins secretly eliminating the passengers.
