DARK ALLEYS & DIRTY DEALS

12 Classic Film Noir Thrillers

Crooked schemes. Dangerous women. Stolen identities. Murder, blackmail, betrayal—and deals that were doomed from the start.

Step into the darker corners of classic film noir with Dark Alleys & Dirty Deals, a 12-movie collection packed with desperate criminals, femme fatales, crooked plans, shadowy conspiracies and ordinary people making decisions that send their lives spiraling out of control.

These are stories born in rain-soaked streets, cheap hotel rooms, back offices, smoky bars and lonely highways. Money changes hands. Alibis begin to crack. Lovers become dangerous. Detectives cross lines they can never uncross.

Featuring films from the 1940s and 1950s, this collection brings together gritty crime thrillers, psychological mysteries, robbery pictures and some wonderfully ruthless characters from the golden age of noir.

THE 12 FILMS

1. TRAPPED (1949)

Starring Lloyd Bridges & Barbara Payton

A convicted counterfeiter becomes part of a government operation designed to uncover a dangerous counterfeit-money ring. Double-crosses, hidden motives and missing printing plates make this a fast-moving crime thriller.

2. HOLLOW TRIUMPH / THE SCAR (1948)

Starring Paul Henreid & Joan Bennett

A criminal on the run discovers a psychiatrist who looks almost exactly like him. He devises what seems like the perfect escape—murder the doctor, take his identity and disappear. One tiny detail threatens to unravel everything.

3. BLONDE ICE (1948)

Starring Leslie Brooks & Robert Paige

A beautiful and calculating society reporter refuses to let marriage, money—or murder—stand between her and what she wants. A deliciously cold femme-fatale thriller.

4. FEAR IN THE NIGHT (1947)

Starring DeForest Kelley

A man awakens after a terrifying dream in which he committed murder. When clues from the nightmare begin appearing in real life, he starts wondering whether what he remembers was really a dream at all.

5. BEHIND GREEN LIGHTS (1946)

Starring Carole Landis & William Gargan

A body is mysteriously left outside police headquarters, launching an investigation involving blackmail, political pressure and secrets that powerful people would rather keep hidden.

6. THE MAN WHO CHEATED HIMSELF (1950)

Starring Lee J. Cobb, Jane Wyatt & John Dall

A veteran detective helps the woman he loves cover up a killing—only to find himself assigned to investigate the very crime he concealed.

7. THE HOODLUM (1951)

Starring Lawrence Tierney

After being released from prison, a hardened criminal is offered another chance at an honest life. He quickly returns to his old ways and begins planning an armored-car robbery that threatens everyone around him.

8. INNER SANCTUM (1948)

Starring Charles Russell & Mary Beth Hughes

After committing murder, a man flees by train and hides in a boarding house. Unfortunately for him, one of the residents may know more about the crime than he realizes.

9. STRANGE ILLUSION (1945)

Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer

A young man becomes convinced that a recurring nightmare is warning him about his mother's charming new suitor. Suspicion soon develops into a disturbing psychological mystery.

10. THE AMAZING MR. X (1948)

Starring Turhan Bey & Lynn Bari

A mysterious spiritualist promises a grieving woman contact with the dead. Séances, deception and psychological manipulation create an eerie mixture of noir, mystery and supernatural suspense.

11. PLEASE MURDER ME! (1956)

Starring Angela Lansbury & Raymond Burr

An attorney successfully defends the woman he loves against a murder charge—then discovers she was guilty after all. Unable to prosecute her twice for the same crime, he devises a dangerous plan to expose the truth.

12. KANSAS CITY CONFIDENTIAL (1952)

Starring John Payne, Coleen Gray, Lee Van Cleef, Jack Elam & Neville Brand

A carefully planned armored-car robbery leaves an innocent delivery driver framed for the crime. Determined to clear his name, he follows the criminals into a world of masks, money and betrayal.

INTO THE SHADOWS OF CLASSIC NOIR

Dark Alleys & Dirty Deals explores the grittier side of film noir.

A detective hides a murder.

A criminal steals another man's identity.

A ruthless woman leaves destruction behind her.

A nightmare may be a memory.

A robbery destroys the life of an innocent man.

Across all twelve films, greed, obsession, deception and desperation push characters deeper into situations they can no longer control.

This is the world of noir—where trust is dangerous and every deal comes with a price.
